2009 NBA Playoffs Preview: Western Conference

Best Team in the Conference – Los Angeles Lakers

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. The Lakers have the NBA’s best player and arguably the NBA’s best leader. They have an assortment of talented big men in an NBA that suffers from far too few talented big men. They also have the NBA’s deepest bench. Combine those factors with the stinging memory of just how the Boston Celtics closed them out in last year’s NBA Finals and will be hard to find another team in the Western Conference that is any better.

Team Most Worthy of Not being in the Playoffs – Utah Jazz

The team that faced the Los Angeles Lakers in last year’s Western Conference Finals, is simply not the same team from a season ago. Key players like Carlos Boozer have either been injured or under-productive. They’re not as good defensively as they were in 2007-08. More than that, the Jazz have not played with the same consistency that helped get them

As the saying goes, “close only counts in nuclear war and horseshoes.” Since the New Jersey Nets became members of the NBA in 1976, they have played in two NBA Finals series. While their first NBA title remains elusive, the Nets continue to play for the coveted NBA Championship trophy.

Before they were the New Jersey Nets, they were the New Jersey Americans and New York Nets, which played in the ABA from 1967 to 1976. How did the Americans become the Nets? Someone had suggested to the team’s owner, Arthur Brown, that the name “Nets,” rhymed with two other New York teams: the “Jets” and the “Mets.” Brown seemed to like the idea, so it stuck.

After roughly a decade in the NBA,

When It Comes To Sports – I’m Blacked Out

Can someone explain to me why it seems almost every professional sports team has either changed their colors, added to their colors or adopted the dreaded alternate uniform, in BLACK!

It is a trend that quite frankly has irritated me for quite some time now. I know I shouldn’t be that concerned with such trivial matters as the color scheme of a few pro sports teams, especially in light of all the financial and political chaos in this country, but I am. Sports are about tradition and tradition has always been about building something meaningful and being proud of what you are and where you come from.

I did not reach my level of concern without first trying to understand and adapt to the current trend in pro sports apparel. I considered that black may be slimming and, that alone would be a legitimate reason to adopt the color. However this method of reasoning soon left my mind when I gazed upon Warren Sapp looking just as fat in Raider silver and

I know my disgust will not be enough to cause a sufficient ground swell of emotions to overturn this trend in sports

Pennsylvania: Travel the Keystone State

Pennsylvania is widely known as the birthplace of modern United States and the cradle of blooming democracy in the face of British persecution, as well as numerous revolution-era battlefields. However, Pennsylvania also boasts a booming economy on two shores, some interesting cuisine contributions to the American diet, and the well known Amish community in its countryside. Explore the nation’s foundations this season!

As the center of the independence movement, Pennsylvania is a state of firsts for the United States, including the country’s first capital in York where the Articles of Confederation were drafted and a nation was established. Consequently, the origins of the U.S. Marine Corps were founded in Philadelphia as the Continental Marines. Pennsylvania is home to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was drafted and signed, in Philadelphia.

Lebron Doesn’t Disappoint In Return, Cavs Win 100-95

LeBron James had a solid week of rest, and was ready to test his ankle vs. Philadelphia and Andre Igoudala last night.  Leon Powe got his first start as a Cavalier with the absence of Antawn Jamison. The Cavs starting lineup was pretty small. Mo, A-P, Bron, Powe and Hickson.  Even though LeBron only finshed with 23 points, he added 10 assists and that was all the Cavs needed to win a close game that came down to the 4th quarter.

LeBron started off with two assists, one to JJ Hickson for a smooth jumper and one to Mo Williams for a set 3 pointer. He then came down the court, walked in for a layup, and then stepped into a 3 pointer. 2 minutes into the game, LeBron already had 4 points and 2 assists. JJ Hickson had an unreal baseline drive and dunk on Igoudala, and the Cavs were rolling. But Philadelphia held their own. They took advantage of Shaquille’s absence, and kept driving and scoring baskets in the paint. Initially, Dalembert, Brand, and

The Sacramento Kings – A History

The Sacramento Kings are a professional basketball team which is based in Sacramento, California. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The franchise that would become the Sacramento Kings initially played in Rochester, New York, as the Rochester Royals of the National Basketball League. Success was almost immediate: founded in 1945, the team won the NBL championship in 1946. In 1948, the Royals moved to the Basketball Association of America, which absorbed the NBL the following year to become the National Basketball Association. The Royals won the NBA title in 1951, which remains the only championship in the team’s history. Top players in this era included Arnie Risen and Bob Davies, both Hall of Famers.

In 1957, the Royals moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. The team landed two top stars in Maurice Stokes and Jack Twymann. Stokes’ promising career ended tragically due to a brain injury that resulted from a fall during a game.

The Denver Nuggets – A History

The Denver Nuggets – A History

A charter franchise in the American Basketball Association, the team was originally slated to play in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Denver. They were named the Denver Larks before they changed their name and became known as the Rockets for their first seven years of existence, winning division titles in 1970 and 1975. The name “Rockets” was derived from the Rocket Trucking Company, owned by the team’s owner and having the same colors (orange and black).

However, they tended to struggle in the postseason and failed to make a championship game during this span. They had a solid lineup led by Byron Beck and Larry Jones, then later by Beck and Ralph Simpson. During the 1969-70 season, the team also had controversial rookie Spencer Haywood. Haywood was one of the first players try to turn pro before graduating from college, and the NBA initially refused to let him play in the league. Haywood averaged 30 points in his only ABA season, then was

Houston Rockets – The Early Years

The Rockets, along with the Seattle SuperSonics, entered the NBA in 1967 as an expansion team based in San Diego. They selected Pat Riley with their first draft pick in 1967. They went on to produce a then-NBA record 67-loss season.

In 1968 the Rockets won the coin toss versus the Baltimore Bullets, giving them the first overall pick in the 1968 NBA Draft. They selected Elvin “the Big E” Hayes from the University of Houston. Hayes led the team to the franchise’s first ever playoff appearance in 1969. The Rockets lost in the Western divisional semi-final to the Atlanta Hawks two games to four in a best-of-seven series.

The 1970 NBA Draft brought Calvin Murphy and Rudy Tomjanovich to the Rockets – both significant to the franchise after their playing careers were over.

Coached by Jack McMahon and Alex Hannum, the Rockets tallied a 119-209 record over their tenure in San Diego.

In 1971, real estate broker

During Game 5 of the 1980 NBA Finals Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (the league MVP) suffered an ankle injury. Although he would return to the game and lead the Lakers to victory he would not travel with the team to Philadelphia. Prior to Game 6 Magic Johnson learned that Larry Bird had been named Rookie of the Year which wasnt surprising since he the Celtics won 32 more games than they had the previous year. However when Magic found out that Bird won the voting 63-3 he used it as motivation for the upcoming game. They want to see who the top rookie is? Well, watch what I do in Game 6 against the Sixers. Starting at center in place of the ailing MVP the rookie went on to have the greatest performance in NBA history by scoring 42 points, pulling down 15 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists, ripping away 3 steals and blocking 1 shot.

Watch Sports On Your Computer

People living in American society have taken sports to greater popularity it’s becoming the way of life for Americans. All you have to do is look at the newspapers which devote a whole section of daily sport coverage to such sports as baseball, basketball, golf, football, soccer and much more. If you are involved as a spectator or participant the thrill you get watching your team or playing for your team is like a emotional roller coaster and you would not have it any other way.

I love the idea of watching live sports be it on my computer, television or live in person. Nothing beats being there but that can not always be the case especially if your favorite team is playing overseas such as my soccer team I follow Liverpool in the English Premier League. There are software programs out there that let you watch live sports on your computer for a one off lifetime fee. It does not matter if the game is played in America or whichever countries you can get
